ABSTRACT

The introduction of anything new or unique is accompanied by challenges to its implementation. The success of SPADES depends on identifying and managing challenges to the process. The challenges will include resistance and will be manifested as problems presented by those who want to maintain the status quo or by the manner in which it is implemented. Some of these problems can be avoided by careful preparation. Others will require corrective action and recovery planning to stay the course to the strategic goals. This chapter presents the common challenges experienced, during a period of change, with associated corrective or preventive actions. Note these challenges apply to any other new or unique process or method that may be introduced to an organization, e.g., quality management, safety practices, or environmental concerns.
