ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces new technological trends which will be state-of-the-art and sophisticated technological designs aimed at increased mitigation of pre- and post-disaster losses in Pakistan. It discusses the need for an early warning system for multihazard scenarios and describes the economic burden of disasters on a global level. The buoyancy of the communication infrastructure is crucial for the prosperity of any country. It is necessary to build robust and interoperable information and communication technology setup that will be responsible for facilitating the first responders, as well as the masses when and after the disaster hits. The important aspects of disaster management engineering are to develop a generic design of a multihazard early warning system and to model architecture for an integrated interoperable wireless communication network for disaster responders, in addition to the use of information and communication technology in disaster management operations. Engineering systems, technologies, techniques, inventions and innovations are believed to be crucial to mitigate disaster losses.
