ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the disaster engineering technologies after a disaster has hit any region. Multihazard early warning systems using Wi-Fi, WiMAX and Zigbee, and satellite communication technologies using wireless cum wired communication networks across the country have been proposed. Two computer-based tools are also necessary, which should be attached to the system for disaster handling—the Hazus loss estimation tool and the Sahana Disaster Management Tool. First responders are the individuals who respond immediately after a disaster hits. Their operations demand all-round 4Cs and information sharing with other departments, law enforcement agencies, firefighters, ambulances and staff, as well as local and international public safety community and media. Law enforcement agencies and public safety organizations need voice and data communication facilities both within and outside their domains. The miscreants also fired upon the people, the law enforcement agencies present on the scene, and later the fire brigades when they arrived to extinguish the fires.
