ABSTRACT

Jahangir’s innate curiosity in uncommon, strange and exotic animals, revealed in his graphic descriptions of birds and animals, speaks a lot of his scientific outlook and his admiration of wildlife. Still more curious, Jahangir ascertained the period of gestation concerning Indian elephants and experimented with hybridization and cross-breeding, and breeding in captivity. Further, Jahangir went on to examine genetically determined characteristics of a male and a female of a particular species. Mindful of the geographic distribution of wildlife, he also gave a list of birds and animals not met with in Kashmir.
