ABSTRACT

M. Oda experimentally obtained the relation between the number of contact points per particle and the void ratio for a homogeneous assembly and two-mixed assembly. The plane formed by the contact points is flat for the simple cubic packing. On the other hand, the plane connected by the contact points of a real soil block is not flat but curved because of the irregularity in the shape and size of soil particles and the randomness of their arrangement. To obtain the resultant force per unit area of the bottom plane for the soil block, as well as the simple cubic packing, it is necessary for the soil block to determine the number of rows. In the phase diagram, the unit cube with the void ratio e is modeled.
