ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how unconditional positive regard is and is not expressed, and how it is and is not perceived, and why. It also explains the applications of unconditional positive regard in life in general, but also in psychotherapists life, as well as in psychotherapists present and/or future counseling sessions. The chapter discusses the inhibiting factors for unconditional positive regard; be able to explain the factors that may inhibit psychotherapists unconditional positive regard. It describes the likely relationship between counselor burnout and difficulty expressing unconditional positive regard, and the potential effects of this counselor difficulty on clients. The chapter outlines psychotherapists plan for avoiding the burnout that may inhibit psychotherapists unconditional positive regard and negatively affect psychotherapists clients. It discerns how psychotherapists may maximize their strengths and improve by learning from psychotherapists weaknesses in providing unconditional positive regard.
