ABSTRACT

Frank doesn’t know where his writing comes from or even if he’s the author. He believes his stories originate outside of himself.

Frank writes in a dissociative trance akin to automatic writing. The content of his stories comes from his imagination, information telepathically received, and information drawn from a transpersonal reservoir of human knowledge, all of which is organized by a divine force: Frank says, “That’s how I write. I surrender myself to the divine.” This is like Grotstein’s contention that Bion’s O (God) is the author of our dreams.

Here’s evidence in support of Frank’s belief: Frank’s character, Watson Page, appears to be a mirror image of physicist Hugh Everett, except Frank never heard of Everett. Frank’s character Mekes possesses ten characteristics of Pythagoras, but Frank never thought of Pythagoras while writing his novel, and didn’t know those specific attributes about Pythagoras. Then there’s Distanziert who is the twin of Fritz Perls. Perls coincidently shares ten attributes with Dan. Of course, Frank never heard of Perls and was unaware of Dan’s background. So, how does Frank get these ideas? He is a savant.

Pre-Socratic philosopher Anaxagoras’ Nous, a cosmic super-intelligence, is proposed as the compositional force behind Frank’s stories.
