ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the various options for the actual exit process and issues to consider that involve life after the exit event. It discusses specific process of selling a business, should that become the exit option of choice for an entrepreneur. The major component of an exit plan is an assessment of the wealth the entrepreneur aspires to realize from the sale of the business. The exit process relies on careful, thoughtful self-assessment throughout the growth and development of a business venture. Market fluctuations dramatically changed the exit plans of a group of entrepreneurs in the health-care industry. An entrepreneur may consider a number of different exit options before choosing one. Some entrepreneurs exit their businesses through a planned liquidation without the need of bankruptcy protection. Entrepreneurs have to consider their personal preferences based on their own life and career planning.
