ABSTRACT

Conventional, evidence-based psychotherapy is labor-intensive and thus continually at odds with the demands of patients, as well as insurance companies, in favor of the quick, relatively easy fix anticipated from medication. With an expectation of low cost symptom-reduction in the short run, inadequate attention is thus paid to the more complex underlying problems, with recurrence a not uncommon result. The ongoing struggle between clinical versus ‘business’ (read ‘insurance’) challenges, resulting in mixed results, is noted in a number of real life experiences.
