ABSTRACT

The reduction in public funding for the mental health system has essentially turned health care facilities into for-profit oriented entities. Consequently, we are now witnessing an increasingly dysfunctional and disrespectful upper level management attitude toward clinical staff; the resulting abusive use of power has turned the mental health system into something akin to ‘futilism’. This chapter describes the process and the outcome, particularly the effect it has had on many of us in the field.
