ABSTRACT

This chapter on ‘Tribal Communities in the Post-Colonial Punjab’ provides rich details about the major tribes in the sample of the present study. After discussing their general history in brief, the focus is on the economic activities of these communities that they were pursuing for their livelihood. These are the traditional occupations of the tribes that are characteristic to each community. This information tends to belie the claims of the Punjab government that there are no tribes in the state.
