ABSTRACT

“I hate giving this advice because it’s the last thing writers want to hear, but it’s true. Build your professional network. It’s the writer’s own relationships that will get him/her/them staffed. Showrunners tend to work with writers they know because they need to hire people who contribute, are reliable, and who make showing up to work enjoyable. When they know you already it makes hiring you a lot easier because they have a certain level of comfort. So get out there and meet people. As you expand your network, you will find your opportunities will increase exponentially.” — Kelly Edwards, senior vice president, Talent Development, WarnerMedia Entertainment
