ABSTRACT

Discoveries are often beyond our control, but decisions are not. They come straight from our unique Central Control—experience, values, worldview. Our decisions define us. They also define the lives that we lead. It is no wonder, then, that major decisions are powerful moments in screenplays; true watershed moments. There are two main kinds of decisions in drama—expedient and ethical. Expedient decisions have to do with choice of means, and ethical decisions concern specific ends. The decisions our characters make—like our own—are hotlines to who they are and what they value and believe.
