ABSTRACT

Yu Ying Chien & Omar Lucas developed and co-wrote the script for The Great Wall of Vicky Lynn. The mother–daughter conflict—and disconnection and reconnection—between Vicky and her mother, Mei-Shei, is the comedic core of The Great Wall of Vicky Lynn. Yu Ying pitched the idea to Omar because she knew they had similar senses of humor and similar sensibilities about writing the script as a “light comedy.” Both of them hoped the audience would feel entertained while being able to understand the reason for her mom’s extreme strictness, and Vicky’s exhaustion. Understanding, after all, is connection. The film has connected with audiences nationwide, winning a number of awards including Best Short—Cinematography at the 2018 Silicon Beach Film Festival in Los Angeles.
