ABSTRACT

When asked about the inspiration for his hilarious horror/comedy MFA Thesis Film, Killer Kart, writer/director James Feeney responded that he had the idea many years ago while working at a supermarket in high school. An isolated shopping cart, lit only by the parking lot lights in an empty lot, is a surprisingly creepy sight. While, rationally, you know its movement must have been caused by a gust of wind or the gradual decline of the pavement, those rogue shopping carts certainly appear to drift around on their own. And like those grocery carts that seemed to have a mind of their own, so did James’ creative process and journey from the script he initially wrote in class at the FSU Film School to the award-winning short film that audiences have screened. James's script evolved and deepened because he trusted his instincts again and dimensionalized Cass.
