ABSTRACT

The idea of the high-tech smart city is moderately new and it will soon take over from the knowledge city, the digitalised city and the feasible city. The smart (high-tech) city also relies on the internet of things (IoT), sensing devices and cloud computing to provide an extensive network of linked electronic devices. In reality, the smart city consists of several real-world elements, such as big data, complex computations, intelligent decision-making capabilities and more. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, 2030, has emphasised and defined sustainability for future generations (“United Nation Development Programme: Sustainable Development Goal” 2019). The applicability of recent available enabling technologies that may be helpful in achieving sustainability must be analyzed. Some of these available technologies are machine learning, IoT, edge computing, cloud computing, big data and others.
