ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a description and definition of what we mean by progress in skills. It also presents how we measure skills progress in the classroom and what specifically researchers have to say about it. Following an outline of how skills are specifically taught, a number of strategies are presented to help promote skills development in lessons. The chapter continues with implications for leaders and key questions that teachers, school leaders, governors and parents should ask in respect of progress in skills. The chapter concludes with a personal vignette in relation to skills progression.
