ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a description and definition of what we mean by progress in knowledge. It also presents how we measure knowledge progression in the classroom and what specifically researchers have to say about it. Following an outline of how knowledge is specifically taught, a number of strategies are presented to help promote knowledge development in lessons. The chapter continues with implications for leaders and key questions that teachers, school leaders, governors and parents should ask in respect of progress in knowledge. The chapter concludes with a personal vignette in relation to knowledge progression.
