ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses something central to healing the world – our sense of wonder towards nature. It proposes the reawakening of Earth spirituality and how we can re-enchant the world. The chapter discusses why rejuvenating wonder is a key part of healing the world, as it gives us the deep belief to act. It explains by listing the steps we can take on the road back to wonder. Many of us feel a sense of wonder towards nature. The sense of wonder is also about listening and ‘empathy’. Our sense of wonder at nature is thus not just ‘one more value’, but something of central importance, something that gives us meaning. The opportunity is there for us to rediscover the sense of wonder. However, the sense of wonder can equally well be described as an experience of the sacred spirituality of the land. The importance of ecocentric education and education for wonder is thus critical.
