ABSTRACT

Imagine a world where a species evolved to a level of consciousness where she could think about the wonder of being part of life. The arts of this species would celebrate the wonder of their home and its life. This species would ‘take’, but would also give back to the land, for its key obligation would be to protect the wonder of life. If our species remains fundamentally unsustainable, refusing to live in harmony with life, then it will pass into the fossil record. Such life-withering, self-destructive acts as reducing ancient forests to toilet paper, killing and selling the last of countless species, sickening children, poisoning fields of food. Marketing fossil fuels at such a rate that the consequent global warming threatens the stability of life on earth – all these must become business-as-usual, how things are done by normal, honorable people. To live simply, because we don’t believe in taking more than our fair share.
