ABSTRACT

The following case reflects a situation in which a teacher was not operating at an optimal and, sometimes, functional level. The following sections offer considerations for working with teachers and students in a collaborative way to augment successful classroom experiences. Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) is a theoretical framework that focuses on the strengths and motivations of individuals to generate solutions for resolving a problem. The teacher informed the counselor that she had talked to the principal about it first, and the principal requested that she not make the report, saying that she would intervene with the mother and student on her own. Additionally, careful consideration has to be taken when informing the parent about what is happening in the classroom. As described in the professional experiences, administrator support, or lack thereof, provides either a protective factor or a significant barrier.
