ABSTRACT

Having rigorous or high expectations for your students is an important element of an early childhood classroom. However, in order to meet such expectations, positive relationships must be present between teachers and students or young children. Within this chapter, strategies are suggested on how to advocate for relationship-building techniques in early childhood settings. The chapter outlines the value of relationships and why nothing may be accomplished in a classroom setting without children feeling safe, secure, and loved. Effective teacher–child interactions and relationships have a direct correlation to increased social/emotional and academic learning outcomes. Chapter 2 highlights the value of positive interactions and relationships.
