ABSTRACT

The efficacy of subsoil grouting can be evaluated by comparing the settlement rate of the Cathedral and the Sagrario before and after injecting mortars. The levellings were carried out every two weeks from October 1991 to the end of 1999; it was subsequently decided to schedule them monthly. Three levellings per year were done afterwards, until 2004. Two levellings were made in 2005 and one in 2007. The last levelling was made in August 2018. The Sagrario shows a maximum settlement rate at its southeast corner of 16 mm/year with respect to point C-3, located close to the apse of the Cathedral, and 20 mm between the southeast corner and the northwest columns. Making reference must be said that some ornamental sculptures in the facade toppled and fell over and that some minor cracking did occur as a consequence of the earthquake.
