ABSTRACT

There are three generations in the workforce: baby boomers, Generation X, and millennials. Each generation was born in successive 20-year periods starting in about 1946. Given that the majority of organizational leaders are Generation X, with the elders in the C-Suite being baby boomers, and the majority of the workforce being millennials, it’s appropriate to examine each of these demographic groups in more detail. Generation X was born between 1965 and 1980. Millennials are the generation born between the early 1980s and the late 1990s. They take their name from the fact that children of this generation would either be graduating from high school at the turn of the century or would be entering the new millennium as adults. The challenges for executives in the C-Suite are numerous. Given that the majority of C-Suite members are Generation X, they need to examine their own beliefs and behaviors for where these differ from other generations.
