ABSTRACT
The chapter presents some examples of the textile artifacts discovered: the oldest to date in the world flax yarns in Georgia, the oldest samples in Europe in the Czech Republic, and others. The elementary weave patterns: plain weave, twill, and satin/sateen are discussed in terms of their historical appearance. Microscopic pictures of the elementary weaves are shown. A brief description of the types of the existing weave patterns is also presented.
