ABSTRACT

The chapter presents the application of motifs as a source for the design of new weave patterns. Weaves based on basket motifs, figural rib, and fancy twill are commented as patterns for cell-like effects on the cloth surface. The weave patterns for diagonal effects, namely, diagonal rib and broken twill are demonstrated. Motifs are used to show textures with zig-zag effects and also the design of crepe weaves. Several patterns are shown as illustrations together with expressions for the calculation of the weave repeat.
