ABSTRACT

The work of the Building a Foundation S-Curve can last for 18 months or more. At 12 to 18 months following the start of deployment, preparation began for the Self-Supporting S-Curve. Following the executive session, two projects focused on the improvement of the Six Sigma processes were launched in the Engine Business. One project focused on improving the Six Sigma system: project selection, common measures, Belt selection and so forth. The other project focused on the individual project process: Master Black Belt reviews, project charters, project trackers, Sponsor responsibilities and so forth. The deployment approach used for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) was generally followed for the Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) start-up because DMAIC was proving to be successful and the thought was to follow the same approach for DFSS to see similar results. The audience for a DMAIC project is anybody in the business.
