ABSTRACT

Drive by Daniel H. Pink is a fantastic contribution to the world on how to successfully lead a project team. A key responsibility for a project manager is to shield team members. Accountability can be as simple as having someone acknowledge they did not meet the expectations of the team and commit to doing better in the future to meet those expectations. Management By Walking Around is really about making one-on-one connections with project team members away from scheduled team meetings so there are multiple paths of communication to share feedback. If something difficult or exciting comes up in the project plan, use it as an opportunity to encourage team members to step up and participate in the task. Systems and frameworks do not require the project manager to make every decision. Few organizations can defend managing all projects in their active portfolio using an Agile framework.
