ABSTRACT

From the lighting designer to the shop staff, there are opportunities to be thoughtful in new and distinctive ways that can greatly enhance a production or routine. As a programmer it is very important to be creative while maintaining the technical accuracy required when building looks on stage. A purely technical programmer is nothing more than a data entry monkey with little to no creative input in a production. A programmer must always remember that the LD is hired as the responsible party regarding the overall look of the lighting on a show. The tireless work of technicians ensures that productions are repeatable for audiences, day in and day out. Entertainment lighting within a production requires many skilled craftspeople to fully achieve a production’s needs. Only by working together to provide the best possible show can all the expertise unite.
