ABSTRACT
Diversification keeps John Viesta happy and interested in his career. Since the late 1990s he has worked on countless Broadway shows for a “Who’s Who” of lighting designers as well as built an impressive resume of his own designs. While in college at Purchase College he had desires to work on Broadway as a lighting designer, and started forming a plan to make that happen. Viesta has found his happy place with a work/life balance that allows him and his family to live the life they want to live. Their financial situation provides what he needs for his daughter, and he is very satisfied with the work he is doing and projects on his plate. Many of the designers he worked with were very happy to work with him again and offered him plenty of work. Viesta has certainly demonstrated that lighting is essential to both his personal and working life.
