ABSTRACT

In May 1994, Ron Schilling was hired by Upstaging for ten days to help prepare the Eagles’ “When Hell Freezes Over” tour. During those ten days he knew in the back of Schilling mind that he was going to get a full-time job at Upstaging. He had been doing lighting since the second grade. Touring is full of compromises and sacrifices that the people have to make, but also opportunities that most people will never ever get. In 1997, Schilling had a moment that opened his eyes to the “reality” of our jobs and responsibilities. Fortunately, safety standards and practices have improved tremendously since then, but the dangers are still prevalent. During his touring life, he has been preparing for retirement by saving and not overspending. He owns multiple rental homes and has contributed to a 401(k) plan through Upstaging for most of his life.
