ABSTRACT

Extreme poverty can be eliminated, and other forms of systemic poverty can be ameliorated globally. According to R. Desai: Sub-Saharan Africa has historically struggled in its fight with poverty. Progress has begun yet the region still contains hundreds of millions of poor people, most of whom are located far behind the poverty line. Much of the movement in its curve occurs to the right hand side of the poverty line, implying that some portion of Africa’s population could remain impervious to a further 20 years of global economic progress and integration. In this scenario, the region’s poverty rate stands at 23.6 percent in 2030. Simply put, endemic poverty is morally wrong period. Thus, the primary moral responsibility of nongovernmental organizations as well as corporations, communities, and nations, as the Ruggie Principles advocate, is to end endemic poverty.
