ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 provides an overview of card payment industry. It briefly describes the history of card payments, explains the two major card scheme types in existence and provides a side-by-side description of two particular payment scenarios: a purchase with an EMV chip-capable card at the store and a purchase online with enabled 3D Secure service.
