ABSTRACT

Z is another letter in the alphabet on which management writers have little to say. The best I could come up with after trawling though endless numbers of textbooks was “zero-based budgeting” and “Zen Buddhism”. I addressed the former in the section on Money and I’m afraid that I have little to say on the latter. I went searching in my Dictionary of Proverbs for final words of advice but the only listings were warnings against zeal. As zeal means great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective, that’s last thing I want to warn you against. You’ll need every bit of energy and enthusiasm you can muster to do your job well.
