ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how smartphones have expedited connectivity much faster than in previous decades as smartphones become the essential catalyst of contemporary globalization. It compares the smartphones with the Internet in tandem with instant connectivity and explains the ways in which smartphones advance globalization as they blur lines between geographical locations. This chapter also explains the increasing role of several mobile platforms like mobile instant messengers, Skype, Twitter, and the operating systems in the globalization process. It then critically discusses the crucial relationship between the smartphones and relevant applications and globalization as they unquestionably diminish the relevance of borders and territory.
