ABSTRACT

The relationships within a society and toward the state are crucial for daily life. Armed conflict affects these relationships mostly negatively. Enhancing or reconstructing social cohesion is often mentioned as one of the aims of transitional justice in post-conflict settings. Moreover, social cohesion is strongly connected with the overall goals of transitional justice: peace and democracy. This chapter aims to entangle this link between transitional justice and social cohesion and concretize the possible effects. Up to date, there are no works that assess this relationship conceptually or empirically. The analytical framework for the analysis developed here can be easily adopted from other researchers for other transitional justice contexts.
