ABSTRACT

Big Data could provide competitive advantage and the use of Big Data analytics is usually associated with a higher propensity to innovate, and to innovate with intensity. Also, investment in activities such as data security and standardization generate more value when put in the context of a firm that already made an earlier investment in data collection. Managers should recognize and consider the value of these assets, even if they do not produce short-term performance gains. From an individual’s perspective, the major categories of applications like personal location data are linked to smart routing, location-targeted advertising, electronic toll collection, insurance pricing and disaster management. Location data can also be used for urban planning and retail business intelligence.
