ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how the judicial system in Hong Kong defines rape, provides a comparison of police reports on rape incidents with the reports from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) for victims of sexual crimes, and also provides a brief report on the contribution of SlutWalk Hong Kong, which raised awareness of what rape culture is. It discusses some information on matters related to sex work in Hong Kong: the recent reports of crimes against sex workers, information on NGOs for sex workers, and a general profile of what sex work is like in Hong Kong. These accounts fleshes out what the social, political and judicial environment in which Hong Kong sex workers ply their trade is like. The society on the whole, from its culture to its laws and especially in local churches and other hierarchical locales, promotes rape culture rather than protests against it. Rape culture is pervasive, including in Hong Kong.
