ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 explores the history of psychiatry and its ideologies to give a long perspective leading up to the detailing of its evolution in the 20th century in the rest of the book. Each of the three alternative ideologies is reviewed in its historical waxing and waning: social ideology, biological ideology, and psychological ideology.
