ABSTRACT

Possibly the most economically progressive inclusive development strategy currently found in development literature relates to resource redistribution. Redistribution is generally a process of sharing a nation’s wealth through its tax system, spending on public programs, and direct cash transfers. This chapter highlights recent trends in economic redistribution at the national level. Examples from Southern Africa are used to demonstrate how inclusive development is framed through distributionism, or the philosophy and economic policy that all individuals of nations are entitled to a share of its wealth.
