ABSTRACT

Cicely Berry trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama before becoming voice director for the Royal Shakespeare Company. In her various masterclasses with the OSC, Ms Berry talks about the vocal challenges of speaking Shakespeare, and works with students on exercises using texts from Hamlet (also covered by Michael York and Malcolm McKay), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (touched on by Diana Rigg and Priyanga Burford), and Sonnet 129 (analyzed in the John Barton chapter). Ms Berry was recipient of the Sam Wanamaker Prize.
