ABSTRACT

Dame Diana Rigg trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and worked with the National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, before and after her great television success. In her masterclass, Dame Diana talks about what she learned from theatre legends such as Charles Laughton, Laurence Olivier, Peter Hall, John Barton, and Peter Brook. And what she believes makes for a good director. She gives insight into King Lear (also discussed by Derek Jacobi and Ron Cook), Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (discussed in Cicely Berry’s chapter). Her awards include a Tony, an Emmy, and a BAFTA.
