ABSTRACT

Tim Pigott-Smith trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and worked with the RSC. In his masterclass, he discusses his influential teacher, Rudi Shelly, and his collaborations with theatre legends John Barton and Peter Hall. He explores character and textual challenges, such as end-stops, shared half-lines, monosyllables, prose, and verse-speaking by taking the class through the process of analyzing the text of The Winter’s Tale (a play also discussed in Jeremy Irons’ and Priyanga Burford’s chapters). Plus, a guest artist appears in the audience. Mr Pigott-Smith’s awards include a BAFTA and a Fantasporto.
