ABSTRACT

In 1991 AT&T’s company-wide paper recycling program included white, colored and mixed grade paper, computer paper, envelopes, carbonless forms, magazines, newspapers, and corrugated boxes. The company joined a coalition of businesses throughout the state whose mission was to encourage business recycling. Reprographics Services is a service offering of Global Real Estate (GRE) Property Management. GRE provides office services for itself, Corporate Information Technical Services, Bell Labs, Global Information Solutions, and other business units. AT&T Bell Laboratories received an award from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection for “Outstanding Achievement in Recycling.” In 1990, the Environmental, Health and Safety Department had an idea for a quality improvement program that included recycling and used a team approach. Electronic mail was implemented to reduce the amount of paper generated for internal use. AT&T incorporates audit and remediation activities in its performance reporting. The goal is to reduce waste while increasing product output yields.
