ABSTRACT

The defense contracting companies are run by men of experience, much of it acquired through years of service in the industry or the Government. Top managers and members of the board bring to their work a wide range of knowledge and impressive networks of ties to positions of influence, giving them a significant role in a contractor’s Government relations strategy. Board members also have knowledge of, and experience with, the Federal Government. Twenty-three percent (28) of the directors of our companies have current advisory connections or have held positions in the Federal Government that could bring them into contact with information and policies of use to the company. To a willingness to play an active role, an effective board member must have experience and connections. The top leadership of the company provides it with long experience in defense contracting and the defense industry.
