ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 provides a conceptual overview of the evolution of frontier and border while contextualising its role in shaping the sovereign territorial state. From the perspective of international laws, this chapter explains the growth of sovereign territorial states and the causes of its territorial/border disputes. The territorial aspects of a border region are taken into account to explore and discuss the spatial dimension of a distinct sub-state region popularly known as Northeast India.
