ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 examines India’s Look East/Act East policy from a liberal perspective of IR and its impact on India’s Northeast in the context of cross-border interactions. In keeping with the liberal position, this chapter begins by tracing India’s Look East policy in the post–Cold War environment, underlining the significance of Northeast India in trans-border interactions with the East and Southeast Asian countries, the manner in which the Northeast came to figure significantly in India’s Look East/Act East policy in recent times, and whether such policy formulation benefits the region with specific reference to the bilateral and multilateral initiatives.
