ABSTRACT

This chapter combines both the author’s reflections on the ways in which her professional work and the creation of ORCA is woven throughout her personal history and a transcribed conversation with her own children. Through this interview with her children, Chloe and Christian, Tina Schermer Sellers explores the ways in which an ORCA-Stance can be used in parenting and household. By digging into questions around sexuality, body image, and personal choice, the author asks vulnerable questions about her own children’s experience of the type of parenting she offered. Did the ORCA-Stance that was prevalent in the author’s professional work translate to her children; did they feel seen, known, loved, and accepted with openness, respect, curiosity, and accountability to power?
