ABSTRACT

The ORCA-Stance is a practice which takes energy, intentionality, and at times, correction. This chapter invites the reader to consider their own values and practices within their specific context. The reader is asked to imagine that they have been asked, called, and/or inspired to begin to explore and develop intentional practices of humility. Useful questions are presented for identifying and engaging a broad, diverse group of stakeholders to their setting. After assembling these rich voices, reflections are suggested to explore their particular history, purpose, and structure. Next, questions for identifying commitments to humility and ways to operationalize those commitments into particular behaviors, interactional styles, and potential rituals are encouraged. It is noted that embodying a unique stance of cultural humility will be a continuous and intentional process, not an end goal. The process of isomorphic accountability is discussed in attending to congruent program structures and relational processes.
