ABSTRACT
I’ve always had the notion that an actor is tested to their limits by tackling, at some stage in their acting lives, the Bard. Shakespeare’s complexity is also his thoroughness and utter dexterity in examining the human soul in the most finite detail. But not only does he do that, he also plays with the mind’s complexity, juggling several thoughts in the air simultaneously. Sadly, few actors now can capture that same effervescent quality in their acting. Shakespeare challenges the best of us. When the actor is matched to the role he or she is playing then an electric glow emanates from the stage. In my extensive play-going life I have seen a rare few times when that has happened, and how very grateful I am to have seen it!
